Academic-Led Presses

Academic-Led Presses (ALPs)

A publishing initiative set-up and run by academics. These are presses that are not affiliated to an institution, but are run by academics. They are almost all not-for-profit, meaning any money made in excess of operating costs is reinvested into the running of the press. As with New University Presses, many of these presses were founded specifically to publish open access books.

Academic-led presses are most often independent, highly ideological entities, set up to provide an alternative publication route to the commercial presses or to support the open access publishing of books for example
